Adventure Awaits You !

Imagine yourself breathing clean, crisp air one clear early morning, when suddenly your adventure begins with the sound of your guide yelling "fish on" and the line peeling off of your reel with such force that you can barely get the rod out of the holder. As you lift your rod to set the hook you realize this could be the big one everyone has been talking about for the past few minutes. Wow, you think to yourself is he ever going to stop running? All at once the line goes slack and your guide is yelling at you to reel as fast as you can. What happened, you wonder? Then the line begins to tighten once again and immediately the fish begins to head shake letting you know that he isn't going to come willingly. Easy... your guide says, he was swimming towards the boat and he'll run again now that you've caught up to him. Low and behold off he goes again as the reel burns your hand and raps your knuckles...

Nootka Sound

Nootka Sound is located on the west side of Vancouver Island in beautiful British Columbia, Canada. It is here that the mighty Chinook (King) salmon is reknown for its size and strength. Anglers come from all over the world to try and land the 20-50+ pounders that are abundant in the local waters. Every year there are lucky anglers who take home stories of netting a 50 plus pound Chinook (King) salmon or a large halibut, lingcod, or red snapper. In the fall there are 12-25 pound Coho (Silvers) that also frequent these waters leaping out of the water when hooked.

Nootka Sound is steeped in history that dates back to the times of the early english/spanish explorers and their encounters with the Mowachaht/Muchalaht First Nation. Nootka Sound was the first place the white man landed on the west coast of Canada. Captain Cook also arrived here in 1776 looking for fresh water and a place to repair his ship. Another ship, the "Boston" was set upon by the mighty chief Maquinna and one of two survivors, John Jewitt was held hostage for two years before his escape. A book called "White Slaves of Nootka" details his capture and ordeal.

Wildlife abounds here in this pristine wilderness, where eagles soar above you as whales, porpoises and otters work the waters around you. Black bears search the beaches at low tide for crabs and shellfish while marten scurry along looking for leftovers. Once in a while a deer can be seen swimming across a channel while a wolf paces back and forth on the beach having just missed his prey. Welcome to paradise!
